Texas Marriage Records
The Texas State Vital Records office has Texas marriage records since January 1966,
and divorce records since January 1968. Certified copies of marriage and divorce records
are not available from State office (see notes below).
Notes:
- For Texas county marriage records, contact the County Clerk
(see list of Counties below), in the county where the license
was issued. Cost will vary.
- For county divorce records, contact the Clerk of District Court in the county where
the divorce was granted. Cost will vary.
The Texas State library does own selected indexes to Texas marriage records and divorces.
The indexes are available for on-site use in the Genealogy Collection,
Tuesday through Saturday, 8 a.m - 5 p.m., as well as to be borrowed through the interlibrary
loan program.
The collection has Texas marriage records from 1966 through the most current year available.
Each year is indexed separately. Entries will be found under both the names of the bride and groom.
Records of marriages before 1966 are located in the county clerk's office of the county
in which the marriage occurred.
